Drug Addiction in Pakistan: Un-Highlighted Issue

Drug Addiction in Pakistan: Un-Highlighted Issue

Drug addiction is one of the several common problems faced by most of nations along with other common problems as unemployment, inflation etc. Several nations have been highlighting the drug abuse problems & acting to reduce it but South Asian countries are not active to take action against it. This problem has not been highlighted in Pakistan as compared to problems as unemployment, inflation and other cultural & political disputes.
In South Asian countries Pakistan is on the top of the list on drug addiction & abuse. Drug Culture in Pakistan existed about 20 years ago. In Pakistan not only males but also number of female drug abusers is increasing day by day. It usually starts from smoking cigarettes and then reaches to heroin addiction and certainly ends with dangerous disease and death. Drug addiction plays major role in weakening of youth. This problem is not limited to only poor & homeless people & children but also teenagers are starting to become victim of drug addiction.  Drug Mafia is targeting youth and then it spreads in society, university and colleges. , With research showing that as high as 60 percent of the addicts belong to the educated class, with a majority of them being university students. This is a cause of grave concern, as we are losing out on the brightest and best amongst us to the menace of drug use.
How can youth of a nation support its nation towards the development of a country if its youth is buying and selling poison?

Measures taken to reduce drug usage
  • ·         An Anti-Narcotics Force being given more equipment along with more manpower.
  • ·         Improved education system can lead nation to dual impact for the betterment of the society and to improve the living standard of the people.
  • ·         Strong Parenting is also a key to prevention.

Drug addiction prevention is a difficult issue because in order to prevent something one must first realize that there is a problem. Our lives had become unmanageable. Without awareness, without education, without personal and community involvement, drug abuse and drug addiction are unmanageable in the community. Look around, Talk to people & Play your part to prevent it.
Time has proved that prevention is much better and less costly than the cure.
